A short story by a 10 year old writer just the way he wrote it!
The Misfortune Cookie
I looked at my brand new, neat,
digital clock. It said the time was 8PM. Which means I had to eat dinner. I
went to the kitchen. No food was prepared. I couldn’t just make food magically
appear, could I?
But I had a plan, like I always do.
No way I was going to stay alive without any food even for one night! I
saw my old-fashioned smartphone lying on the dining table. I realized that that
night, I wasn’t going to be needing my dining table.
I picked up my phone and searched
“restaurants near me” I found a Chinese restaurant nowhere but one kilometre
away from me. I left my apartment and took the lift downstairs.
I am not really in the mood for a
walk. Hitchhiking will be a terrible idea. I don’t have my own car. What should
I do? I thought. I had no bright ideas. I had to walk one kilometre. It was a
major inconvenience. You may not think so, but I do.
I eventually reached the Chinese
restaurant. It was looking good from the outside. A sign nearby said “enter at
your own risk” When it came to eating, I was willing to take any risks. I
entered. The chefs, waiters and waitresses did not look friendly at all.
I was not a person who judges by
appearances, so I just silently made my order. I ordered some Fried rice and
Manchurian. It was pretty good.
When I paid my bills, I received a
free fortune cookie. I ate the cookie and read the paper. It said “your money
will be gone soon. Beware” It was not just that I was baffled, but I was
panicking about what was going on!
I just ignored this warning. I
walked home once more. I took the lift up and entered my apartment. I just
brushed my teeth and slept.
Next morning, I woke up and felt
that I was on some sort of soft surface which felt like dust. I starting
coughing. I heard some birds chirping. I felt as if I was in Heaven.
I opened my eyes to find out that I
was in what looked like a desert at first, but I found out I was in a beach. I
looked everywhere, and found out I was in a beach five miles from home.
At this point, I was done. I started
hitchhiking. I found a safe ride. Just when I reached my apartment, I looked at
my generous driver. He looked like a Chinese person. I realized that he was my
waiter at the Chinese restaurant. He didn’t look so generous anymore!
I quickly opened the car door and
leapt out of it like a frog. My next stop was the bank. I felt that those
people were up to something and they could know all my bank account stuff.
I was right. My bank account went
from $55,000 to absolutely $25. I raced to that restaurant as if my life
depended on it. I entered the restaurant and I asked everyone what is going on
with my bank account and other stuff. They accused me for accusing them. From
their face I could see that they were lying.
