FORGIVING YOURSELF AND LETTING GO!

"I never regret anything," said a friend the other day. And I thought, "Wow, a life without regrets, beautiful!"

There are moments in my life where I feel immense shame and guilt at some of the things I have done in my life, doesn't this person, I asked myself?

Is there such a thing as a life without regrets - lying, cheating, fighting, hurting, gossiping, wrong choices - I didn't think it was possible.

Everyday the news is full of stories of people, young and old, who take their own lives, fighting demons we know nothing about, believing they have disappointed, displeased, hurt, made bad choices, or just because they have let the monster of regret overwhelm them. They live in their space all alone unable to let go of the regrets, the shame and the guilt.

Life is tough as it is without us making it tougher for us by letting remorse crush it and regret becoming our master.

A few lines from the song by Live Like You Were Dying by
Tim McGraw come to mind here:

"Someday I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dying
Like tomorrow was a gift
And you've got eternity
To think about
What you'd do with it
What could you do with it
What did I do with it?
What would I do with it?"

"And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying"
And he said
"Someday I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dying."

Letting regret not paralyse you, letting shame and remorse not hold you back thus making your life even worse than before is the answer to deal with the many questions you ask yourself each day looking at yourself in the mirror. In the journey of your life lock your eyes ahead and not in the rear-view mirror or sooner than later you are bound to crash.
